RESIDENTS ASKED TO REFRAIN FROM PLANTING WATER LILIES
Pond expert says fast-growing lilies can cover and clog our ponds
(Posted 10-10-06)

As beautiful as water lilies are, the plants are NOT appropriate for Ivy Hall drainage ponds.

Someone has planted lilies in a pond off Lexington and Morningdale drives, prompting our pond expert to issue a warning to our Board that such plants can quickly cover and clog our ponds.

More than a decade since development began here, we are fortunate that all 15 of our drainage ponds are still healthy and functional. That's a credit to residents as well as our Columbia-based pond expert.

But to keep our ponds in good condition, we must properly maintain them. Our Covenants contain clear guidelines about what we can and can't do with our ponds and lagoons. Click here to read them.

Meantime, any resident who wishes to plant something in a pond must get prior approval from the Board. Approved plants include the following:

  • Arrowhead

  • Elephant ear

  • Arrow arum

  • Pickerelweed

Thank you for your understanding with this important matter.

FALL IS TIME TO GET YOUR HOME'S EXTERIOR PRESSURE-WASHED
(Posted 9-14-06)

As durable and attractive as vinyl siding is, it's not immune to mildew.

That's why Ivy Hall residents are encouraged to get their homes pressure-washed at least once a year. Fall is a great time to have this service performed because the mildew typically is at its peak, having spent all summer growing in the heat and humidity.

It's important to remove mildew, which attracts bugs and can be a health hazard if breathed in too much. The unsightly growth also detracts from the overall look of the neighborhood.

Dozens of pressure-cleaning companies service Mount Pleasant, a list of which can be found in the yellow pages under "Pressure Cleaning Service." The service usually takes less than a hour and costs between $80-$125 here in Ivy Hall.

Thank you for helping to keep Ivy Hall beautiful!
